The real value of new talent
9 February 2012 9:52 AM
There is always a risk associated with selecting talent from outside the walls of your organization. Culturally, technically, socially, will the new employee fit and add value?
We believe the benefits offered by new talent far outweigh the risks. If new talent aligns well with an organization’s needs and corporate culture, the results can impact the company in profound ways.
To ensure a good cultural fit for new hires, consider structuring interviews to accurately assess candidates’ values and how they define and achieve their goals. This can be done in the form of a cultural questionnaire so that a candidate’s values can be assessed against organizational ones. Remember, not every question has to be about work—tapping into the life skills and broader attitudes of potential employees can tell you a lot about how they work.
Once the selection has been made, new talent can foster learning and growth in existing employees—provided they are assisted to fully integrate and connect with longer-term employees.
Fresh insights, the energy of proving yourself that comes with starting a new role, and the injection of new ways of thinking can provide big advantages in a constantly changing marketplace. Find out more about harnessing the positives of new talent in 5 Steps to Survive the Talent Battle.
