U.S. Talent Market Monthly

Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, which hit the U.S. Gulf Coast region in late August/early September, had a much more significant dampening effect than expected on the payroll employment figures for September. Employment was down by 33,000 workers, marking the first monthly national employment decline since September 2010. The payroll decrease in September, coupled with downward revisions of a net 38,000 for July and August, brings the average monthly job gain to 148,000 for 2017 year-to-date.
