Despite some areas of the US economy showing signs of cooling, the labor market reversed course in April by adding a better-than-expected 253,000 jobs.
Professional and Business Services led the way adding 43,000 jobs, well above the 25,000 monthly average seen over the past six months. Health Care added 40,000 workers while Leisure and Hospitality also continued hiring (31,000), but at a slower pace. Manufacturing added 11,000 workers last month but employment overall this year has been relatively flat.
