The challenge: Global contingent management during transition.
Midyear, the client released a contingent worker global RFP just as they were going through a global HR transformation program to address their local, fragmented approach to temporary staffing. At the time, more than 500 temporary workers were estimated across 39 countries.
The client is active in more than 100 markets, but their temporary staffing demand was mostly in Europe (mainly France, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland) as well as the U.S., Canada, and Brazil. While the client was going through this transformation to support its growth and performance ambitions, they needed to rely on temporary staffing augmentation when appropriate.
The solution: A global MSP rollout, new VMS, and worker tracking.
Due to our strong life sciences track record, KellyOCG® was awarded the business early the next year. We then led the implementation, going live in the third quarter.
Discovery revealed incumbent suppliers couldn't deliver local master vendor solutions for industrial workers, so we implemented a project management office (PMO) in Sweden, France, and Canada. We also identified miscategorized contingent workers and collaborated with HR and procurement on a population analysis and workforce solution roadmap.
The following year, KellyOCG conducted an RFP, contracted a new vendor management system (VMS) provider, and rolled out a global managed service provider (MSP) solution in 39 countries — covering temporary staffing, independent contractors, and services procurement.
The value: A successful global partnership and reduced total spend.
Over the course of the relationship, KellyOCG has:
- Established governance and process: ensured contingent workers are managed via program in key markets, while serving smaller locations with preferred partners.
- Improved efficiency: set the foundation for new ways to work, through a VMS with negotiated rates, to deliver savings of approximately 10% of the total spend in scope.
- Mitigated risk: ensured contractual relationships were established and co-employment and data security risks were eliminated.
- Brought independent contractors and business consulting into the program in addition to temporary staffing.
Implemented a new VMS. - Rolled out an enterprise MSP in six core countries and worker tracking around the world.
