The challenge: Independent contractors difficult to fit in program.

An independent, self-run contingent labor program management office faced a complex challenge following a corporate merger. It became clear that an external Managed Service Provider (MSP) partner was needed to optimize the program and find additional value.

A particularly difficult challenge was the inclusion of right-of-way suppliers. These suppliers had been excluded from the previous self-managed program due to their complex engagement models and the difficulty of supplier adoption. However, it was recognized that including them in the new program was essential to increase compliance, drive cost savings, and mitigate risk.

KellyOCG embarked on a strategic approach centered on research and executive stakeholder engagement. We initiated supplier optimization workstreams that resulted in the identification of exclusive suppliers for right-of-way roles.

The solution maintained the existing utilization of the SAP FG Contingent Labor module for these engagements, ensuring continuity and smooth integration. Through our continued engagement, we uncovered that 95% of resources were pre-identified, with only 5% being sourced through the supplier's bench talent. This insight allowed us to drive significant value and cost savings in a competitive marketplace.

Executive stakeholder engagement, supported by a clear mandate, was key to achieving close to 100% participation. Additionally, we converted the entire supply base from day rates to hourly rates and implemented a new expense management system with standardized controls.
