The quiet reset: global talent strategy in an uncertain economy.

No news is the news — or so it looks. After years of sharp swings in employment, the numbers have finally gone quiet. Don't be deceived. Beneath that calm, hiring strategy is on the move.

In the U.S., job openings are holding at 7.6 million in May, with hires steady at 5.2 million, led by healthcare, construction, transportation/warehousing, and professional and business services. Global job postings are up 6.4%, even as OECD employment sits flat at roughly 5%. Read that together and one thing is clear: this isn't a demand for more workers. It's a scramble for different ones. AI is rewriting the skills employers need faster than most can hire or upskill for them.

Across every market we operate in, the narrative is consistent: cautious on the surface, urgent underneath.

EMEA:

precision over habit.

Hybrid work has settled. The real conversation now is performance, not location. Accountability and skills-based hiring are winning over broad headcount growth, and that's straining the relationship between what employees want (flexibility, fair pay, and purpose) and what employers are optimizing for (productivity, cost, and output). Broad hiring remains constrained by soft GDP and high energy costs, but specialist talent, such as enterprise systems roles in the UK, is red-hot, with compensation climbing well past last year's levels. The market no longer rewards volume. It rewards precision.

APAC:

confident, not aggressive.

GDP is up, hiring is measured, and unemployment remains low, even as more candidates test the market. India leads the region in hiring confidence. Malaysia is one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing markets, riding strong foreign direct investment and demand across tech, engineering, and shared services. Australia and New Zealand are selective with fewer roles, higher bars, and skills-first screening. The standout signal: in parts of Southeast Asia, time-to-fill for AI/machine learning roles has dropped from a week to two days. Where it matters most, talent is moving fast, and so should you.

Our view: Build sourcing around the market, not the org chart.

Geography and skills — not headcount plans — now decide where talent gets found.

Providers like Lightcast, Brightfield, and TalentNeuron give us a live read on labor supply, but data alone doesn't act. Run it through AI-driven analytics, and it becomes real intelligence, surfacing shifts in supply, titles, and hard-to-find niche skills before your competitors see them. One recent rework of titles, skills, and sourcing helped us fill 100% of senior roles for a client across eight countries. The answers are already in the data. Stop guessing.

Don't lock in a strategy before doing the research.

Contingent or permanent? Right location, right message, right offer? Workstyle, skills, and cost now determine every hire, and most organizations aren't equipped to respond quickly enough. We close that gap with talent consulting offerings and a workforce navigator tool that adds a valuable, additional level of expertise and order to the planning process. Clients benefit from a workforce solutions partner with dedicated expertise in the field — one that executes the strategies it recommends and shares ownership of the outcome, not just the plan.

Flexibility is the edge.

The ability to flex across worker types, geographies, and sourcing models is what lets a company move as fast as its market does.

It’s the same story everywhere: calm on the surface with a playbook being rewritten underneath.

The question isn't "how many people do we need?" It's "which skills, which model, which market?"

For 2026, that's the job: trade assumption for intelligence, one-size-fits-all for region-specific strategy, and rigidity for the flexibility to move the second the data says go. The organizations that use this calm to prepare their hiring strategies — not coast — will be the ones ready for what's on the horizon.
